Welcome to Our New Director of Communications, Jace Woodrum

May 29, 2013

Equality Federation is pleased to announce the hiring of Jace Woodrum as our first-ever Director of Communications.

Jace brings to the Federation more than eight years of experience in communications and three years working with LGBT organizations, including one of our member groups: One Colorado.

While at One Colorado, Jace served as both Deputy Executive Director and Communications Director. As Deputy Director, he managed the organization's priority programs, including its legislative campaign to successfully pass a civil unions bill, its initiative to grow and develop Gay-Straight Alliances across the state, and its efforts to document the healthcare experiences and needs of LGBT Coloradans. As Communications Director, Jace helped launch and build the organization's brand and led its efforts to educate the public, shift public opinion, and engage a statewide network of supporters.

Jace left Colorado early this year to return to his native state of South Carolina, where he has been working as a consultant to LGBT organizations. As a member of Freedom to Marry's digital team, Jace has helped to engage tens of thousands of online supporters and connect them with lawmakers to successfully win marriage in Rhode Island and Delaware. Collaborating with Equality Pennsylvania, he has built a communications campaign to support the historic introduction of bills protecting LGBT people from discrimination.

At the Federation, Jace will focus on elevating our organizational brand to better reach key target audiences -- from member organizations to LGBT movement leaders. He will soon take the helm of our communications through our website, email, social media, and beyond -- so stay tuned for some exciting changes.

Jace will also provide support for state groups planning communications campaigns. His expertise with public education and legislative campaigns -- on issues ranging from safe schools to relationship recognition to non-discrimination -- will be invaluable for groups wrestling with how to move public opinion and organize online.

Welcome Jace to the Federation family! Send him an email at jace@equalityfederation.org
