Top Massachusetts Sports Teams Unite in Support of Transgender Equality

January 26, 2016

The Boston Red Sox, New England Patriots, New England Revolution, Boston Celtics, Boston Bruins, and TD Garden have voiced their support for legislation that would ban discrimination against transgender people in public spaces such as shopping malls, restaurants, and other public accommodations.

Mason Dunn, Executive Director of Massachusetts Transgender Political Coalition (MTPC) – an Equality Federation member – said, “In a town that is so loyal to it’s sports teams, it’s great to see the those teams support the transgender community of Massachusetts. It is a clear message that transgender fans are welcome and accepted in some of the largest and well known public accommodations in Massachusetts, such as Fenway Park, and the TD Garden. The protections we are seeking to pass in the State House would ensure that transgender fans could not only attend the games, but also visit the local restaurants, hotels, and businesses, knowing that discrimination on the basis of their gender identity is prohibited across the board.”

Freedom Massachusetts, a coalition backed by MTPC, MassEquality, Freedom for All Americans, BAGLY, GLAD, and HRC is encouraging New Englanders to sign on in support of this important legislation.
