OutFront Minnesota Seeks Community Access Coordinator

October 12, 2015

OutFront Minnesota has been the catalyst for an expansive network of leaders throughout the state who speak out for equality and organize for change. OutFront envisions a state where LGBTQ individuals and their families have equal opportunities, protections and rights. We are working toward the day when all Minnesotans have the freedom, power, and confidence to make the best decisions for their own lives. OutFront’s mission is to create a state where LGBTQ people are free to be who they are, love who they love, and live without fear of violence, harassment or discrimination.

OutFront Minnesota’s Anti-Violence Program (AVP) is a broad-based effort to end violence and harassment against and within LGBTQA-identified communities in Minnesota. We work to build safety and power of survivors and community members as well as work to create opportunities for support and healing through the provision of crisis intervention, advocacy, counseling, community education and outreach. To attain equity for LGBTQ people, we approach our work through an intersectional lens that honors survivors’ many layered identities. We believe that everyone has the right to be safe from harm regardless of sexual orientation or gender identity/expression. We work to create social change at every level — from the individual to the community to the state.

The successful candidate must provide direct service to survivors of violence via a crisis line, peer counseling, court accompaniment, police accompaniment, and otherwise as needed. One day every two weeks will be spent at Bridges to Safety in St. Paul as the LGBTQ liaison there.

The successful candidate will also coordinate and facilitate trainings and collaboration throughout Minnesota with several partner organizations. The candidate will identify and recruit two shelter providers to work on LGBTQ inclusion within their shelter service provision. Additionally they will provide continuing contact with partner organizations, research on training best practices, and curriculum revision and development.

  • Understanding of issues impacting LGBTQ communities.
  • Understanding of domestic violence in general and specifically as it relates to LGBTQ people.
  • Excellent public speaking required. Prior training experience strongly preferred.
  • Willing to travel throughout the state.
