Fairness Project Site
The Fairness Project is a resource for state and national organizations working to secure nondiscrimination protections for lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) Americans. Through its Fairness Project, the Equality Federation offers the public a place to learn more about the need for comprehensive and inclusive nondiscrimination protections. In addition, for our state and national partners, we offer a central location to access news, events and technical assistance.
Most people are surprised to learn that there is no nationwide law protecting lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender individuals from discrimination in employment, housing and public accommodations. While some states have passed laws, the majority–29 states–allow discrimination against LGBT individuals. Another three fail to protect transgender individuals.
The Equality Federation is a part of a movement working to pass these protections. Statewide organizations from Alaska to Florida, Pennsylvania to Arizona, Wisconsin to Texas, along with local and national partners, are working to pass protections at the city, county, and state level.
