Today, philanthropist MacKenzie Scott announced that she has made a major gift to Equality Federation Institute as part of her pledge to give away a majority of her wealth through the Giving Pledge. Equality Federation received a $2 million gift to support the organization’s work as an advocacy accelerator for the state-based LGBTQ+ movement.

“We are incredibly honored to be a recipient of this gift and to have the importance of Equality Federation’s work acknowledged at this level,” said Fran Hutchins, Equality Federation Executive Director. “MacKenzie Scott’s commitment to redistributing wealth through unrestricted giving provides organizations like ours with a vital opportunity to imagine the future of their work and to ensure long-term stability and efficiency. At a time when human rights, transgender rights, and reproductive rights are threatened at all levels of government, this gift will have a profound impact on our ability to increase the scale and impact of resources aimed at enhancing the well-being of LGBTQ+ people in the communities they call home.”

“I needn’t ask those I care about what to say to them, or what to do for them. I can share what I have with them to stand behind them as they speak and act for themselves,” said MacKenzie Scott in announcing her latest round of giving.

This gift will allow Equality Federation Institute to increase the sustainability of the organization and support state partners and their work in the years to come.
