Equality Delaware and One Iowa Join Equality Federation!

August 17, 2017

The state-based movement for LGBTQ equality and justice is broad and diverse. That’s why we strive to ensure that our membership reflects the whole country.

While we don’t actively recruit new member organizations regularly, we do seek out strong partners in the movement. This summer, we welcomed Equality Delaware and One Iowa as new member organizations, bringing our member total to 43.

Equality Delaware seeks to ensure and promote dignity, safety, and equality for all lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender Delawareans.

Equality Delaware works on legislative issues dealing with LGBTQ rights and implementation of governmental policies and practices supporting LGBTQ people. In 2013, Equality Delaware worked to pass the Gender Identity Non Discrimination Act, protecting transgender Delawareans from discrimination in basic areas of life. Last year, Delaware became the 15th state, plus D.C., to ban discriminatory trans exclusions in health insurance.

One Iowa is the state’s leading lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) organization working toward full equality for LGBT individuals in Iowa through grassroots efforts and education.

From One Iowa’s website: “Our mission for full equality includes educating Iowans about why marriage matters to gay and lesbian couples, ensuring that communities are safe for LGBTQ youth, reaching out to communities of faith, addressing concerns about Iowa’s aging and elder LGBT populations, improving access to resources for transgender Iowans, and so much more.”

Welcome to the Federation, Equality Delaware and One Iowa!
