Big Launch: Washington Won't Discriminate!

May 4, 2016

Equality Federation is proud to be working to support Washington Won’t Discriminate, a new coalition-run campaign to educate voters in the state of Washington about the dangers of repealing parts their non-discrimination protections. On April 28th, the campaign packed the pews for its launch.

The Stranger reported: “Launching a statewide fight against trans discrimination from the inside of a church is a strategic move. That strategy carries even more meaning when the church isn’t located in Seattle, an urban enclave everyone already knows is rainbow-striped and proud of it. Instead, on April 28, more than a hundred people carrying “No on I-1515″ signs packed the pews at the Renton First United Methodist Church. The message for supporters of a proposed ballot measure that would repeal protections for transgender people in bathrooms and locker rooms was clear: They are not the moral majority.”

From WA Won’t Discriminate: I-1515 would repeal our state’s non-discrimination protections that for 10 years have helped ensure our transgender family members, friends, co-workers, and neighbors are treated fairly and equally under the law. I-1515 won’t make us safer, but it will encourage more discrimination and harassment of transgender people, and would create serious financial and legal consequences for our state’s economy, businesses, schools and taxpayers.

The campaign has already amassed a broad base of support from faith leaders, businesses, and other fair-minded Washingtonians. Be sure to check it out on twitter, facebook, and website.
