Be Out. Be Healthy. Get Covered. Out2Enroll

October 11, 2013

For too long, the LGBT community has been left out when it comes to health coverage. It has been too hard to find coverage that treats our families fairly, that covers the care we need, and that doesn't break the bank.

But here's the good news: health reform is finally here! The Affordable Care Act, or Obamacare, means affordable new coverage options, limits on discrimination based on sexual orientation and gender identity, and coverage even if you have a preexisting condition. And those are only some of the benefits.Ôøº

New research shows that many in the LGBT community are unaware of these new health insurance options. That's why Out2Enroll was created -- to ensure that LGBT people know how the Affordable Care Act impacts them.

To help raise awareness and educate the LGBT community, Out2Enroll has developed online resources with information on health reform that is tailored to the LGBT community. These resources include frequently asked questions about the law, video messages about the importance of health reform, a blog with reflections from LGBT activists and community members, tools for individuals and organizations to get engaged, an active social media campaign, and updated news on the Affordable Care Act and the LGBT community.

State leaders have a critical role to play in getting these resources out into the community. Health insurance is complicated, and LGBT people in your state need resources and information to navigate the system. You know your communities best -- so Out2Enroll is relying on state leaders like you to help get the word out about all the tools that are available.

Here's how you can get started getting the LGBT community in your state out to enroll:
