Summer Internship Program
The Internship Program with the Equality Federation Institute is an exciting part of our Leadership Development Program. We want to help the next generation of young, passionate lgbt leaders gain the skills and knowledge they need to lead our movement into the future, a future of increasing diversity and challenge. Each summer, a selected cohort of interns works with state lgbt equality organizations and attends online training sessions developed by Federation Institute staff and movement leaders.
Summer interns take on a wide range of projects – creating advocacy trainings for college students at historically black colleges and universities, building a youth-centered action group for a statewide organization, surveying transgender communities to identify policy priorities, running campus voter registration drives, teaching youth to use art for advocacy, helping local businesses understand and support non-discrimination ordinances. There is no limit to what’s possible.
Summer Interns are invited as special guests of the Federation Institute to present their projects at the annual Summer Meeting and meet state and national leaders from across the country.
Member organizations that have established intern programs are encouraged to submit a proposal with one of their current interns. Organizations without programs can use the Internship Program to bring interns into their work. The Federation Institute gives preference to intern applications from under-represented groups.

Volunteering at the Federation
The Equality Federation’s home office is in the Mission District of San Francisco. Although we get an enormous amount of work done with a small staff, there are always more jobs to do than hours in the week. If you live in the San Francisco Bay Area and would like to come in and help us a few hours per week, please fill out our volunteer form by clicking the button to the right.
